June 2026
The Vibe
June has been pretty up and down – but I am ending the month on a bit of a high, having accepted a new role at the university in the Learning Futures team as the Capability Development Manager. There were a few bumps along the road to getting the role – a couple of failed job applications along the way as well. The whole process made me reflect a lot on the work I've done and the things I've achieved, and think about what I need to do next. So it's awesome that an opportunity came up to move forward and pursue something new, because I was feeling trapped during those slightly darker times in the month.
Dark is definitely how most of June has felt, despite the last weekend being bright and sunny. So much of the month has felt dark and grey, and that's probably reflected my mood for the vast majority as well. It's been incredibly wet, and with our house, that also means that it's incredibly green because this is the time of the year when all the weeds decide to come up. When we bought the house, we were advised that we could either fight them or leave them. And based on my experience so far, fighting them has proved futile.
The other impact of the weather has probably been on health and fitness. The weather is not conducive to getting out much. Frankie pulled a muscle in his leg, so he had to rest and recover. I was really getting into my bike commuting – but not enough to embrace the wet or the cold with our end-of-ride facilities. So it's been fairly quiet.
This is the time to want to hibernate, but July is looking pretty good. There's a family trip away to Queensland before I start the new job. My birthday is coming up too - so I'm actually looking forward to next month.
Events
We did head down to Victor Harbour when it was Whale Fest - didn't see any whales but did have a really good walk along the beach, talking and planning. We then continued walking from East Terrace to West Terrace in the city. The in-laws came down for a week, and Ms A had a school musical theatre performance, which was fun. Had a great dinner out at Noi while they were here.

Finished Dark Winds season 4. Really enjoyed Guy Richie's Young Sherlock series and watched Shaun of the Dead as the family movie.
Listened
The latest season of Uncover was really good - The Expert Witness. Also listened to the third season of The Bomb which was a great story of Kennedy and Kruschev.
