Pattern Learning

Bringing new and old work into a new space.

I presented my Blooms 3D work at the HERGA conference yesterday – the first time I've stood up in public and talked through Blooms 3D. It's a project that has been rattling around my head (and this blog) for most of the year, so it felt good to finally put it in front of a room of people who write, review and assure learning outcomes for a living.

This presentation, and the paper I wrote for Ascilite that details my initial research, pushed me to give the framework a home somewhere. My other related work - learning types and patterns- that have their own URLs, but I've been wanting to bring them all together for a while now.

A couple of years ago I purchased PatternLearning.co and have had a placeholder page there ever since. I’ve been toying with the idea of developing some of my own content and maybe doing some external consulting, but got distracted by work and family. But I decided to dust off the URL and completely redesign the site, brand and styles - and start to bring all my projects into a shared common space. So Blooms 3D has a home now, and I really love the new site design. I updated my colour scheme, added light and dark modes, and consolidated the types and patterns into the site.

I've also built out a new 11ty starter – basically standardising my CSS styles, plugins and setup, and the plan is to roll this out across those other domains and eventually this one. I'm really in the mood to try and consolidate as much as I can and reduce some of the fractured setups that I have.

Sections

Bringing this work together has been a long time coming, and it's made the connection between them much clearer to me:

Outcomes, activities and designs – these are elements of an open learning system: a shared vocabulary for the whole design process, to use and adapt.

So take a poke around the new site - let me know if there's any quirks or problems - or if it's just working for you!
