September 2026

A month of contrasts – stable and chaotic, happy and sad, high and low.

The Vibe

I honestly can't believe how fast September has gone. It's been a month, let me tell you. Highs and lows, laughs and tears, drama and calm – all happening all the time and all at once.

Work-wise, I've settled into the new role. I've started on some of the systems work that I need to get done - I haven't been able to finish any of it but it's all in progress. We've been in a few discussions with Qantas, who are setting up a new Product Innovations Centre here in Adelaide and it looks positive so far to partner with them on a few things. I've been thigh deep in tenders and proposals – so lots of new work, but that's probably been at the expense of some of the day to day. I've enjoyed meeting new SMEs who we can partner with – I forget sometimes that I actually like meeting and learning about new people, especially engaging in their passions and interests.

On the personal projects, I've put a lot of work into the new Pattern Learning site. I redid the logos, colour palette, CSS, 11ty components and pulled it all together so that I could publish a link to my Blooms 3D work in my Ascilite paper submission (which is accepted now!). This coincided with a previous submission to present at the Higher Education Research Group Adelaide conference, where I debuted Blooms 3D to a live audience.

I received some great feedback straight away – which was a relief more than anything – but it seems to have landed really well. I originally developed it to scratch my own itch and found it incredibly useful, but having now spent so much time in learning outcomes (and still doing it in the new role) - having a better framework really matters.

Events

While there were no big events this month, we did have some nice family moments. A few nice meals out and some quality time together. Ms A has been going through a rough spell, and after things got a bit dark during the month, it ended on some positive news. Sometimes those emotional events are more substantial than going anywhere or doing anything.

Watched

Mrs K and I went out and watched The Odyssey, which I enjoyed from a practical effects perspective and from watching the proto-epic story done well on film.

I got my latest fix of random violence from Reacher and enjoyed the almost silent film experience of Richardson in Motor City. I also watched Lolita on one of the crappy weather days – I hadn't watched it before and after watching Stanley Kubrick's Boxes I needed a bit of a Kubrick fix.

Clare and I stumbled into Ludwig which has been quite enjoyable.
